Bruno Pot graduated at the University of Gent, Belgium. In subsequent postdocs he performed research on lactic acid bacteria. In 1997 he joined the company Yakult as science manager Benelux. Between 2001–2016 he worked as Research Director at the Institut Pasteur in Lille, France and as Director of Business Development at the bioinformatics company Applied Maths NV in Gent, Belgium. Since 2001 he is also a Guest Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel for courses in food microbiology, food ecology and food hygiene. Since 2016 Bruno is back with Yakult Europe as Science Director Europe. His main research interests are lactic acid bacteria and probiotics, with emphasis on mechanisms, clinical proof and regulation and health claim substantiation. He is member of the Taxonomic Subcommittee for Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium and related taxa, President of the Pharmabiotic Research Institute (PRI); board member of ILSI-EU and LABIP and representing Yakult Europe as a member of the scientific organisations IPA-EU, IPA-global and ISAPP, related to probiotics.
